A Typical Day Will IncludeAs a Public Policy and External Affairs – Patient Advocacy Lead, you will be empowered to:
- Develop and lead the Spanish government affairs and public policy strategy and for fully achieving the Department’s annual functional area goals.
- Analyze and advocate public policies that achieve business objectives.
- Lead external engagement with multiple professional and patient advocacy organizations
- Develop and implement external and internal collaborations that address patient needs through innovative partnerships that advance patient goals
- Support Takeda’s corporate philosophy and strategy to focus on improving patient outcomes
- The person will work also very closely with the MCO Iberia General Manager, local Spanish leadership team and the head of EUCAN GAPP and international GAPP and Corporate Affairs teams.
Accountabilities.
- Define the key public policy priorities in local market and work with the functions such as Market Access, Regulatory, IP etc to build advocacy material and arguments.
- Public Affairs. Creation and development of communications strategies and materials for a wide range of key stakeholders.
- Maintenance and fostering relationships with key stakeholders in the public and private healthcare environments: patients, public authorities, media.
- Analyzing Spanish and relevant EU health policy issues as well as regulatory and coverage/reimbursement policy issues to assist the Department in achieving its functional area goals;
- Works with local and regional policy makers in relation to Health Policy
- Participates in national level industry forums and market access working groups to represent company´s interest
- Understands local legal and regulatory platform, its strengths and gaps, and is able to address it as a part of Public policy management
- Working collaboratively with other members of the international Government Affairs and Public Policy Department to monitor, research, analyze and disseminate information
- Build strong relationships with key patient organizations by understanding their needs and developing strategies and programs that will support them in achieving their objectives in order to build a trust relationship
- Bring the patient voice within Takeda and ensure effective collaboration with all internal functions (market access, medical affairs, marketing teams etc.) in order to allow colleagues from all functions to understand and embed the patient perspective in all decisions
- Ensure that all Takeda interactions with patient organizations are in full compliance with laws and regulations and reflects Takeda ethical principles and corporate philosophy
Education
- University Degree in Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Biology or similar.
Relevant Experience
- 5+ years patient advocacy or advocacy relations experience required from a healthcare company or related organization.
- Meaningful experience working with/for an NGO, or within a Corporate Social Responsibility function
- Proven understanding of mindsets within voluntary organizations
- Experience in a pharmaceutical or medical devise organization
- Innovative thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset
- Proven ability to build credibility within an organization; stakeholder management and collaborative leadership experience
- Ability to influence without authority
Skills
- Strong understanding of the NGO environment and in particular the patient groups’ strategic imperatives and needs; understand the culture and decision drivers of patient organizations
- Understanding of the specialty pharma business model and the overall healthcare environment
- Ability to be an efficient ‘translator’ between the NGO world and the corporate world; bring the patient voice within the organization in a credible and effective manner
- Ability to influence without authority and support the patient groups and other policy groups achieve their objectives in the best interest of patients and the society at large
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
